A form of deep yogic relaxation, Yoga Nidra (meaning yogic sleep) is an opportunity to completely relax your whole body and calm your mind, to recharge and connect with the real you. It can be profoundly healing on a physical, mental and emotional level. During Yoga Nidra you enter a blissful state between being awake and asleep. By entering this deeply relaxed state, you can work on issues at a deep level.
Yoga Nidra induces complete physical, mental and emotional relaxation. Though it’s not a substitute for sleeping, one hour of Yoga Nidra can feel similar to having about four hours of typical sleep, because the brain wave states you go through (beta, alpha, theta, and delta) are so restful and relaxing. People often remark how much their sleep improves and how much more relaxed they feel. Yoga Nidra can break negative habits, eliminate suffering and self-destructive patterns and help you to realise your true nature and interconnectedness with all of life. The many benefits of regular practice include improved concentration, overcoming anxiety, maintenance of overall good health, improved sleep, and increased energy and happiness.

We begin each session with some gentle stretches before lying down for a deep guided relaxation. We also practise various breathing exercises, mudras (special hand postures) and mindfulness techniques to aid in controlling our thoughts, improving the quality of our everyday lives and increasing happiness.
As well as being deeply relaxing, Yoga Nidra is also a tool for self-development and it is possible to work on something specific by setting a sankalpa: a positive resolution which you repeat each time you practise, watering this seed until it comes to fruition. (In private Yoga Nidra sessions it is possible to have sessions designed around specific goals you wish to attain).
